Class OverviewThis course focuses on the nature and core concepts of technology, engineering, and design. Through engaging activities and hands-on project based activities, students are introduced to the following concepts: elements and principles of design, basic engineering, problem solving, and teaming. Students apply research and development skills and produce physical and virtual models. Activities are structured to integrate physical and social sciences, mathematics, English language arts, and art. Work-based learning strategies appropriate for this course include mentorship, school-based enterprise, service learning, and job shadowing. Technology Student Association (TSA) competitive events, community service, and leadership activities provide the opportunity to apply essential standards and workplace readiness skills through authentic experiences.

Students will be using web 2.0 tools, such as a wiki or presentation tools, and will ask them to keep their username anonymous. The teacher will be monitoring these sites for appropriate behavior and these sites will not be open for public view

SafetyEach student enrolled in this Technology, Engineering and Design program will have the opportunity to use various tools and equipment. Appropriate instruction in the safe operation of these tools and equipment is given and close supervision is maintained at all times. Although every precaution is taken to prevent accidents, a certain risk is involved due to the nature of the experience, the age of the student and the learning environment. FVHS asks for cooperation in impressing upon each student the importance of being careful. This encouragement will support the instruction that is given in school
